Cole Palmer’s record against the Premier League’s traditional big six has come under scrutiny following his disappointing performance in Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
According to a report by The Athletic on Monday, 26 October 2026, Palmer has scored 10 goals and registered two assists in 26 Premier League appearances against Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham since joining Chelsea.
The England international endured a difficult afternoon against Tottenham on Saturday, failing to score or provide an assist before receiving a red card in a frustrating display for Xabi Alonso’s side.
Despite Chelsea’s previous dominance in this fixture, Tottenham secured a convincing victory at Stamford Bridge, raising further questions about the Blues’ performance and Palmer’s contribution in high-profile matches.
Palmer’s overall record against Tottenham remains respectable. In six Premier League appearances against Spurs, the 24-year-old has scored three goals and provided two assists, although all three goals came from the penalty spot.
His numbers against Manchester United are also impressive on paper, with four goals in six matches. However, his record against Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City has been less convincing.
According to the figures provided by Transfermarkt, Palmer has scored once in four Premier League games against Arsenal and once in four appearances against Liverpool. He has also scored just once in six matches against Manchester City.
Across those fixtures, Palmer has yet to register an assist against Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City. His contributions against Tottenham account for both of his assists against the five clubs.
The report argues that those numbers fall short of expectations for a player widely regarded as one of Chelsea’s most influential attacking talents.
Palmer will have an opportunity to improve his record when Chelsea face Manchester United on Saturday. He is not expected to serve a suspension for that fixture, although his availability and condition will remain important considerations following the Tottenham match.
Chelsea will need their leading attacking players to deliver more consistently in major encounters if they are to compete with the Premier League’s strongest sides.
