According to a post by Fabrizio Romano on Friday, October 31, 2026, Xabi Alonso has praised Romeo Lavia following an impressive display by the Chelsea midfielder.

The Real Madrid manager highlighted Lavia’s performance from a midfield perspective. He was particularly impressed by the Belgian’s decision-making, movement and competitive approach.

Alonso described the display as an outstanding performance, stressing how effectively Lavia carried out his responsibilities throughout the game.

"From a midfielder's point of view, it has been a top, top, top performance," Alonso said.

The former midfielder also explained that Lavia made several good decisions and contributed positively to his team’s performance.

"Lavia did so many things right. He's taken many right decisions. He was dynamic, competitive," he added.

Alonso’s comments underline the qualities he recognised in Lavia’s performance. The Belgian midfielder’s ability to make sound decisions, remain active and compete strongly in midfield stood out to the Spanish coach.

For a midfielder, those qualities are important in maintaining control, supporting teammates and responding to different phases of a match.

Lavia’s display evidently caught Alonso’s attention, particularly because of the range of responsibilities he handled effectively.

The praise also reflects the growing recognition of Lavia’s technical and tactical qualities. His performance demonstrated the importance of discipline, movement and decision-making in the centre of the pitch.
