According to a report by Metro on Monday November 2, 2026, former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has backed Arsenal to retain the Premier League title following their impressive 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
The Gunners moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League table after Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal in the 16th minute to secure all three points against the reigning champions.
Arsenal's victory was made even more significant by Manchester City's 1-0 defeat against Brighton, which allowed Mikel Arteta's side to increase their advantage at the summit.
The north London club have also enjoyed an impressive run of form, winning their last four matches and conceding just one goal during that period.
Their defensive organisation was particularly evident against Liverpool, who enjoyed more than 56 per cent of possession and attempted 17 shots but failed to register a single effort on target.
Schmeichel was impressed by Arsenal's performance and believes their quality and squad depth make them difficult for any Premier League rival to compete with.
Speaking on Viaplay, the former Denmark international insisted that the manner of the victory was less important than securing the result at such a difficult venue.
"That performance, to come here to Anfield and win 1-0, I don't care about the manner," he said.
"We can discuss that and we've done that for two years now.
"Now they are winners and I can't see anyone, with that squad and what he has available to him, Arteta, who can challenge this team."
Schmeichel's comments reflect the growing confidence surrounding Arsenal's title ambitions as they continue to demonstrate their ability to win difficult matches.
The former Manchester United captain also reserved special praise for Noni Madueke, crediting Arteta with helping the winger develop into a more complete footballer.
Schmeichel recalled Madueke's time at Chelsea, when he questioned whether the winger's attitude would allow him to fulfil his potential.
However, he believes the Arsenal manager has helped transform the England international from a talented player into a much better footballer.
"Now, what we've just seen in the game against Liverpool, it's great manager work," Schmeichel said.
Former Arsenal winger Freddie Ljungberg also praised Madueke following his performance at Anfield, describing him as a top talent who will play an important role for the club.
Ljungberg highlighted the winger's improved defensive contribution, explaining that he remained disciplined and did not switch off when Arsenal were under pressure.
"He did really well and he's going to be very important," Ljungberg said.
Arsenal will now turn their attention to the Champions League, with a trip to face Slavia Prague scheduled for midweek before they return to Premier League action against Hull City.
Arteta will hope his players can maintain their impressive form as they continue their attempt to defend the league title.
