According to a report by Daily Post on Monday November 2, 2026, Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has set his sights on breaking the record for the most Premier League appearances by an African player after moving ahead of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.
The Fulham midfielder reached 329 Premier League appearances after starting Saturday's 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, moving into second place on the all-time list of African players with the most appearances in the English top flight.
Iwobi had previously shared the position with Salah but has now moved ahead of the Egyptian forward.
The 29-year-old has made his Premier League appearances across three different clubs, featuring 100 times for Arsenal, 123 times for Everton and 106 times for Fulham since joining the London club.
However, Iwobi is not satisfied with surpassing Salah, as he is now targeting the record held by former Ivory Coast defender Kolo Toure.
Toure currently sits at the top of the list with 354 Premier League appearances, leaving the Nigerian international just 25 matches away from taking his place.
Speaking to FFC TV, Iwobi admitted that although overtaking Salah was a notable achievement, his attention was already on reaching the next milestone.
"It's hard for me to cherish the memories. I'd like to keep on looking ahead so it's a nice little stat to have. But I'm trying to break the record, I think Kolo Toure is up there so I'll keep my eyes going forward and see if I can break that," he said.
With 29 league matches remaining in the current campaign, Iwobi has an opportunity to challenge Toure's record before the end of the season, provided he remains fit and continues to feature regularly for Fulham.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian midfielder has also expressed satisfaction with Fulham's recent improvement after a difficult start to the campaign.
The Cottagers have collected positive results in their last three league outings, recording consecutive victories over Hull City and Coventry City before sharing the points with Aston Villa.
Despite the encouraging run, Iwobi believes his team must improve their finishing after failing to convert several opportunities against Villa.
Iwobi has registered 36 goals and 41 assists in the Premier League since making his debut against Swansea City on October 31, 2015.
The former Arsenal and Everton midfielder will now look to maintain his consistency and playing time as he closes in on Toure's record and an opportunity to make further history for African football.
