Football London reported on Sunday, June 7, 2026, that Chelsea were already expecting a tough summer transfer window following their failure to qualify for European competition, though the difficulty of that task is now becoming even more evident. Despite having Xabi Alonso as manager, a tenth-place Premier League finish has weakened Chelsea’s influence in the transfer market.

Top players usually prioritize clubs competing in European competitions, making it harder for Chelsea to attract them compared to Champions League and other continental sides. Rumours surrounding uncertain futures for players such as Enzo Fernández and Marc Cucurella further underline the impact of missing out on Europe.

Chelsea had also been linked with rising star Zadok Yohanna, who has stood out since joining the AIK first team. The teenage winger appeared six times in 2025 and has continued his development this season, recording five goals and four assists in 12 games.

His performances attracted interest from Chelsea and Newcastle United, but Brighton & Hove Albion have now reached an agreement with AIK to sign the 18-year-old.

The deal is believed to be worth approximately £21.5 million, representing another case of Chelsea losing out on a highly rated young player despite strong reported interest.
