According to a report by Madrid Universal on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the 19-year-old has been selected by head coach Lionel Scaloni for Argentina’s November international fixtures. His inclusion follows a steady improvement in form since joining Fiorentina on loan from Real Madrid last summer.
Mastantuono initially struggled to establish himself at the Santiago Bernabeu despite showing considerable promise during his early appearances. The teenager eventually moved to Italy in search of consistent playing opportunities and a better environment to continue his development.
Although adapting to Italian football took some time, his performances have improved significantly in recent weeks. His latest contribution came during Fiorentina’s encounter with Sassuolo, where he found the back of the net and delivered an impressive overall display.
Beyond scoring, the Argentine completed three successful dribbles, won six duels and recorded six ball recoveries. His contribution demonstrated his growing importance to the team in both attacking and defensive situations.
The goal against Sassuolo also brought his Serie A tally to four goals in 10 appearances. According to Madrid Universal, he has become the second-youngest player to score four goals within his first 10 appearances in the competition.
His consistent performances have attracted Scaloni’s attention, resulting in his return to Argentina’s national team setup. The World Cup runners-up are scheduled to face Uruguay on November 13 before meeting Costa Rica four days later, on November 17.
However, securing a place in the squad does not guarantee regular minutes, as Mastantuono faces strong competition from several attacking players, including Nico Paz. He will need to maintain his current form to strengthen his chances of becoming a regular international option.
His progress will also encourage Real Madrid, who considered a loan move necessary to provide him with sufficient first-team experience. With several established attacking options available, remaining at the Spanish club could have limited his opportunities.
Mastantuono’s development at Fiorentina suggests the temporary move is producing positive results. Nevertheless, his long-term future at Real Madrid remains unclear, particularly regarding whether Jose Mourinho considers him part of his plans.
Continued improvement in Italy could strengthen his chances of returning to Madrid as a more experienced player or attract interest from other major European clubs.
