According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Barcelona have received a boost in their efforts to sign Alessandro Bastoni after the Inter Milan defender turned down the Italian club's initial contract renewal offer.
The 27-year-old centre-back remains a major transfer target for Barcelona, with sporting director Deco continuing to follow developments surrounding his future at Inter Milan. His decision to reject the first renewal proposal has created fresh uncertainty about whether he will remain at the San Siro beyond his current contract.
Reports indicate that Inter have already presented an opening offer to Bastoni's representatives in an attempt to secure his long-term commitment. However, the defender's camp reportedly considered the terms inadequate, leaving negotiations unresolved.
This situation could give Barcelona another opportunity to pursue the Italian international, although completing a transfer is expected to be challenging. The Catalan giants have reportedly maintained communication with his representatives despite failing to secure his services during the previous summer transfer window.
Barcelona were previously close to reaching an agreement with Bastoni, who was reportedly willing to sign a contract that would keep him at the club until 2031. However, manager Hansi Flick eventually decided not to proceed with the proposed transfer, forcing the club to suspend their pursuit.
Despite that setback, Bastoni's representatives have reportedly continued to view Barcelona as an attractive destination should he decide to leave Inter. The defender is also believed to want clarity about Flick's sporting plans before making a final decision.
In particular, Bastoni reportedly wants to speak directly with the Barcelona manager to understand his potential role, position within the squad and importance to the team's long-term project. Such discussions could influence his willingness to consider a move to Spain.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan are expected to demand a significant transfer fee if they become open to selling their defensive asset. The Italian side reportedly value the defender at approximately €70 million and are unwilling to accept a lower offer.
Bastoni's current contract runs until 2028, giving Inter sufficient time to negotiate improved terms or demand substantial compensation from interested clubs.
For Barcelona, signing the experienced defender would strengthen their defensive department considerably. His composure in possession, technical ability and qualities as a left-footed centre-back make him suitable for Flick's tactical approach.
Nevertheless, Deco must carefully assess the financial demands involved before making another attempt. Bastoni's rejection of Inter's opening renewal offer has reopened the possibility of a transfer, but Barcelona still face important negotiations before any agreement can materialise.
