Enzo Fernandez confirms Man City exit wish

According to a report from FootballTransfers, on Saturday October 31, 2026, Manchester City midfielder Enzo Fernández says he intends to return to River Plate before ending his career.

The Argentina international joined City from Chelsea for a reported €145 million on the final day of the summer transfer window. He came through River Plate’s ranks, making 53 senior appearances before moving to Benfica in 2022.

“I want to return to River at some point. I’ve said it several times, and I’m sure I will,” Fernández said on the Argentine programme Los Edul, according to Sport Witness. “I want to go back, win trophies and enjoy River for many more years than I did before.”

Fernández added that he remains committed to City for now, where his contract runs until 2031. Since arriving on September 1, he has scored once in 10 appearances.

A return to Argentina does not appear imminent, with Fernández under a long-term contract at City. However, he has made clear that River Plate remains part of his plans for the future.

Several other City players could leave next year. Rayan Aït-Nouri has reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United after limited playing time, while Rico Lewis may also be considered for a move if his role does not grow.

Mateo Kovačić’s future will depend on whether City agree to extend his contract. Without a new deal, he could leave as a free agent.
