Frankfurt Manager Sends Strong Warning To Arsenal-Linked Can Uzun Over His Future Development

According to a report by FootballTransfers on Friday, October 23, 2026, Eintracht Frankfurt manager Adi Hütter has cautioned Arsenal-linked youngster Can Uzun that his long-term development could be affected if he fails to embrace his responsibilities as part of the team.

The 20-year-old Turkish international has recently faced questions over his performances, particularly after losing his place in Frankfurt’s starting eleven.

Uzun initially enjoyed an impressive spell this season, recording four goals and three assists in six appearances. His performances followed an outstanding start to the 2025/26 campaign, during which he found the net in five successive Bundesliga matches.

However, despite his attacking qualities, concerns have emerged about his consistency and willingness to contribute defensively.

The midfielder had previously been a regular starter under Hütter but was surprisingly left out of the starting line-up for Frankfurt’s 1-0 victory over Cologne last Friday. He remained on the bench throughout the encounter without receiving any playing time.

Addressing the situation, Hütter made it clear that Uzun must recognise the importance of collective responsibility rather than concentrating exclusively on his individual qualities.

“The sooner Can understands that football is also a team sport where he can contribute his skills, the greater the career he will have,” the manager said.

“If he doesn’t realise this, he might end up being his own worst enemy.”

Hütter also believes the youngster needs to reproduce the quality he displays during training sessions when competing in actual matches, highlighting the importance of consistency in his development.

This is not the first time Uzun has received such criticism at Frankfurt. Former manager Albert Riera raised similar concerns last season, suggesting that his attacking talent alone would not guarantee him a regular place in the team.

Although Uzun is naturally suited to playing as an attacking midfielder or just behind the main striker, he has increasingly been used on the left wing this season. The adjustment in position could be another factor behind his inconsistent attacking contributions.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly keeping tabs on the youngster as Mikel Arteta considers potential additions to strengthen his attacking options. The Gunners have also been linked with making contact with the player’s representatives.

Frankfurt previously placed a €60 million price tag on Uzun, with Turkish giants Galatasaray among the clubs that showed interest in securing his services during the summer transfer window.

However, developments within Frankfurt’s recruitment structure, alongside the player’s uncertain position in the team, could have an impact on his future.

Any possible move to Arsenal would also present a tactical challenge for Uzun. Arteta demands high levels of pressing, defensive discipline and teamwork from his attacking players, meaning the youngster would need to improve his contribution without possession to fit into the Spaniard’s system.
