According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday October 29, 2026, Former Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has revealed that eliminating Barcelona in the 2010 Champions League semi-finals gave him greater satisfaction than winning the competition.
The Italian businessman reflected on Inter’s historic treble-winning campaign and discussed Ronaldo Nazario’s arrival from Barcelona, alongside Jose Mourinho’s subsequent departure to Real Madrid.
Speaking to AS, as reported by SPORT, Moratti recalled Inter’s memorable victory over Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona during the semi-finals. Mourinho’s side overcame the Catalan giants before defeating Bayern Munich 2-0 in the final at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Diego Milito scored both goals against Bayern to secure Inter’s third European Cup title. However, Moratti admitted that eliminating Barcelona at Camp Nou remained his favourite moment of the entire campaign.
“I was happier at the Camp Nou. I celebrated reaching the final even more after eliminating Pep’s Barça than after beating Bayern 2-0 at the Bernabeu,” Moratti explained. He described the experience as sensational and unforgettable.
The former president also discussed Inter’s signing of Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario from Barcelona in 1997. He recalled that the transfer was relatively straightforward because the Spanish club’s asking price appeared reasonable to him.
“Barcelona set a price. Perhaps they thought it was high, but for me it wasn’t. I saw it as interesting and affordable,” Moratti said.
He added that Barcelona eventually regretted the agreement, but the deal had already been completed. Ronaldo was reportedly delighted to move to Italy and begin a new chapter in his career.
Moratti also addressed Mourinho’s departure from Inter for Real Madrid in 2010. Despite the Spanish club’s fierce rivalry with Barcelona, the former president insisted that he had no resentment towards the Portuguese manager.
According to Moratti, Mourinho had always wanted to experience Spanish football, and he was unwilling to prevent him from pursuing that ambition.
Although Moratti is no longer involved with Inter, Barcelona continue to share a competitive history with the Italian club in European football.
