According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, British broadcaster Piers Morgan has questioned Michael Carrick’s suitability as Manchester United manager, suggesting that the club could consider former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte as an alternative.
Carrick is facing scrutiny following Manchester United’s poor start to the Premier League season. The report stated that the Red Devils had secured just one victory in their opening seven matches, leaving them 13th in the league standings.
Morgan believes Manchester United may need a manager with a strong personality and the determination to address the team’s difficulties. He identified Conte as a possible option if the club decides to end its association with Carrick.
Speaking on Sports Uncensored, Morgan expressed reservations about Carrick’s appointment despite acknowledging his achievements as a player.
“Michael Carrick. I am not feeling it. He was a superb player,” Morgan said.
The broadcaster distinguished Carrick’s qualities on the pitch from his current managerial responsibilities, questioning whether he was the right choice to lead the club through its present challenges.
Morgan also praised Conte’s approach to management, pointing to the Italian’s intensity and demanding standards as qualities he believes Manchester United needs.
“Conte has a problem. He got that fire in the belly which I think United need now,” he added.
Conte, who previously managed Chelsea, is known for his demanding leadership style, tactical discipline and emphasis on high performance. His managerial record includes competing for major honours, making him a name that could attract attention if Manchester United considers a change in leadership.
However, any potential appointment would require the club to assess whether Conte’s tactical approach and management methods align with the current squad and its long-term objectives.
The report did not indicate that Manchester United had decided to dismiss Carrick or that the club had contacted Conte regarding the managerial position.
