Champions League Table And Match Review After Tuesday Fixtures

Manchester United ended their nine-match winless run in dramatic fashion after coming from two goals down to secure a 3-2 victory over Roma in their Champions League encounter at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, United produced an impressive second-half performance to turn around a disappointing start and claim their first victory under manager Michael Carrick after a difficult run of results.

Roma took an early advantage when Matias Soule opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finishing Rodrigo Mora’s pass beyond United goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

The visitors increased their lead six minutes later after Ayden Heaven handled the ball inside the penalty area. Donyell Malen stepped forward and converted the resulting penalty to make it 2-0.

United struggled to find a response during the first half, although Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo attempted to create opportunities to bring the hosts back into the contest.

The home side returned after the break with greater determination, but suffered another setback when Carlos Baleba was forced off with an injury in the 51st minute.

United eventually reduced the deficit in the 58th minute after Gianluca Mancini conceded a penalty. Fernandes initially failed to convert his effort, but was given another opportunity following an encroachment infringement, and he made no mistake with his second attempt.

The goal transformed the atmosphere at Old Trafford, with Bryan Mbeumo coming close to equalising shortly afterwards when his effort struck the left post.

United continued pushing forward and eventually completed their comeback through Matheus Cunha, who scored in the 83rd minute after connecting with Fernandes’ delivery.

The Brazilian forward struck again just three minutes later, finishing Shea Lacey’s assist to give the hosts a 3-2 advantage.

Although Cunha received a second yellow card during stoppage time, United managed to protect their lead until the final whistle.

The victory brought an end to Manchester United’s difficult nine-match winless run and handed Carrick an important result after a challenging period at the club.
