According to a report by Barca Universal on Friday October 30, 2026, Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro has backed Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal to win the Ballon d’Or in the future, insisting that the Spanish youngster deserves to receive football’s most prestigious individual award.
Yamal has continued to establish himself as one of the best young players in world football following his impressive performances for Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
Despite missing out on the 2026 Ballon d’Or, the 19-year-old finished third in the rankings, behind Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe.
Speaking on Cadena SER’s El Larguero, Porro expressed his admiration for his Spain teammate and tipped him to eventually win the prestigious award.
"Lamine is an ambitious player who always wants more. I know what he is capable of. People who understand football know that sooner or later, he deserves a Ballon d’Or," Porro said.
The Tottenham defender has shared the pitch with Yamal for Spain in recent months and has witnessed the Barcelona forward's qualities at close quarters.
Both players were part of Spain's successful 2026 World Cup campaign, with Porro also contributing two goals during the tournament.
Yamal has earned widespread recognition for his dribbling ability, creativity and influence in important matches. However, improving his finishing could help him become an even more complete attacking player.
The teenager remains an important figure in Hansi Flick's plans at Barcelona, with the club hoping he can lead them to major honours in the coming years.
Barcelona will also be counting on his contributions as they pursue their ambition of winning the Champions League.
