According to a report by Flashscore on Friday, October 23, 2026, Nigeria’s Flamingos have qualified for the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after recording an impressive 3-1 victory over defending champions North Korea in their final Group B match.
The Nigerian team produced an outstanding display at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco, scoring twice in the first half before adding another goal after the break to secure their second win of the competition.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring for the Flamingos in the 15th minute, converting a pass from Mary Dunstan to give Nigeria an early advantage against their formidable opponents.
The opening goal boosted Nigeria’s confidence, and the team continued to put pressure on the North Korean defence. Their attacking efforts paid off again in the 38th minute when Oluebube Umejiaku found the net following an assist from Tosin Rafiu, extending Nigeria’s lead to 2-0.
The Flamingos maintained their two-goal advantage until the half-time whistle, leaving the defending champions facing a difficult task after conceding twice in the opening period.
North Korea had approached the encounter in impressive form, having defeated Puerto Rico and Poland in their first two group matches. However, Nigeria’s organised defending and effective finishing made it difficult for the reigning champions to recover from their early setbacks.
Following the resumption of play, the Flamingos continued to attack in search of another goal that would further strengthen their advantage.
Their determination was rewarded in the 58th minute when Kanyinsola Yusuf scored Nigeria’s third goal, putting the team 3-0 ahead and placing them in a commanding position to secure victory.
North Korea eventually managed to pull one goal back in the 82nd minute through Yu Jong-Hyang, reducing the deficit to 3-1 and offering a late response.
Nevertheless, Nigeria remained composed during the closing minutes and successfully protected their lead to secure a valuable victory over the defending champions and book their place in the knockout stage.
The result marked a strong recovery for the Flamingos, who began their group-stage campaign with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Poland before bouncing back with a 2-0 win against Puerto Rico.
Nigeria finished second in Group B behind North Korea, earning qualification for the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The victory also gives the young Nigerian side a significant confidence boost as they prepare for the challenges of the knockout stage.
