According to a report by BBC Sport on Friday, October 30, 2026, Mainz suffered a shocking 4-1 defeat against Elversberg in their Bundesliga clash at the Ursapharm-Arena.
Elversberg made a bright start and needed just seven minutes to take the lead through Felix Keidel, who curled a direct free-kick into the back of the net after Mainz failed to deal with the early pressure. The home side continued to cause problems for their visitors, and their efforts paid off again in the 26th minute when Francis Onyeka finished with his left foot following an assist from David Mokwa.
Mainz struggled to find their rhythm as Elversberg controlled much of the first half, although the visitors had a few opportunities to get themselves back into the game. However, they could not make those chances count, and Maurice Krattenmacher made the situation worse for them by scoring Elversberg's third goal just before the half-time break.
Mainz returned for the second half hoping to reduce the deficit, but Elversberg remained difficult to break down and continued to create dangerous opportunities. The visitors made several substitutions in an attempt to change the game, but their efforts did not stop the hosts from adding another goal late in the contest.
Cole Campbell volleyed home in the 90th minute after receiving a cross from Nicholas Mickelson, making it 4-0 and putting the result beyond doubt. Mainz managed to get a consolation goal through Benedict Hollerbach in the 90+2nd minute, but their late response did little to change the outcome. Stefan Posch was also sent off after receiving a second yellow card in stoppage time.
The defeat leaves Mainz in eighth position on the Bundesliga table with 10 points, while Elversberg climb to fifth place with 13 points after securing an important home victory.
