According to a report by the Evening Standard on Friday, October 30, 2026, Manchester United youngster Jariyah Shah has been called up to train with the senior squad ahead of Saturday’s Premier League encounter against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The 17-year-old midfielder was among the academy players involved in Thursday’s training session at Carrington as head coach Michael Carrick prepared his team for the difficult trip to west London.
United will travel to Stamford Bridge hoping to end their disappointing run of results and ease the pressure on Carrick. The Red Devils have suffered consecutive defeats, losing to Como and Bournemouth by three-goal margins, and have not recorded a victory in any competition since beating Champions League debutants Sabah on September 10.
The club have received some encouragement from Kobbie Mainoo’s return to training. The midfielder has missed United’s last four matches through injury but is pushing to become available again.
Providing an update during his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Carrick confirmed that Mainoo had resumed some training with the group.
The United manager, however, will be without Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte, who remain longer-term injury absentees. Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw are also doubtful for the Chelsea encounter.
The absence of several senior players from Thursday’s training session created an opportunity for academy prospects, with Shah and Jack Fletcher among the youngsters involved.
Fletcher, the son of former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher, was named on the bench for last week’s Champions League match against Como but is yet to make a first-team appearance this season.
Shah, meanwhile, has continued his development through United’s youth system since joining the club from Doncaster Rovers.
Born in Australia, the youngster signed scholarship forms in 2025 and made his Under-18s debut for United in February of the same year. He subsequently became a regular member of Fletcher’s team during the 2025-26 campaign.
Although naturally a midfielder, Shah has also featured regularly in defensive positions, particularly at right-back, demonstrating his ability to operate in different roles. He also made an attacking contribution last month, scoring in United’s 6-0 victory over Wolves Under-18s.
