According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday October 17, 2026, football pundit and commentator Constantin Eckner has backed Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane to win the 2026 Ballon d'Or, placing him ahead of Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal in the race for the prestigious individual award.
Kane has enjoyed an impressive spell with Bayern Munich, establishing himself as one of Europe's most prolific forwards. His goalscoring performances and contribution to the German club's success have strengthened his case for the award.
According to Eckner, the England international is currently ahead of Yamal, although he expects the Barcelona star to remain his main competitor.
"Yes. I see him [Harry Kane], pretty much ahead of Lamine Yamal [in the race for the 2026 Ballon d'Or], I think it will be a race between these two," Eckner said, as quoted by Casino Guru via Bavarian Football Works.
"It might be Harry Kane's time, I think he would be the safe winner."
Kane's impressive goalscoring record is a major factor behind the pundit's prediction. The Bayern striker reportedly scored more than 70 goals for club and country during the previous season, underlining his importance to both his club and the England national team.
The former Tottenham Hotspur captain has continued to demonstrate his quality since moving to Germany in 2023, combining clinical finishing with intelligent movement and an ability to influence Bayern's attacking play.
His individual achievements were also accompanied by team success, as he helped Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga title.
Kane additionally claimed the European Golden Boot, further strengthening his credentials in discussions surrounding the Ballon d'Or.
The award recognises individual excellence, but team achievements and performances in major competitions can also influence the debate. Kane's combination of goalscoring consistency and domestic success therefore provides a strong foundation for his candidacy.
However, Yamal remains a significant contender following his continued development at Barcelona.
The young winger has established himself as one of the Spanish club's most influential attacking players, impressing with his creativity, dribbling ability and contributions in the final third.
Despite his age, Yamal has already attracted considerable attention for his performances at the highest level. His influence in Barcelona's attack could make him a serious challenger if he continues to deliver outstanding performances.
Nevertheless, the final outcome will depend on the players' overall performances and achievements considered by the award's voters.
For Kane, winning the Ballon d'Or would represent a major individual milestone after years of establishing himself among Europe's leading goalscorers. His Bundesliga success and remarkable scoring numbers have strengthened his position in the conversation.
