According to Barca Universal on Friday, October 16, 2026, Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini has outlined his approach to limiting Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal ahead of their La Liga meeting on Saturday.
Barcelona will travel to La Cartuja hoping to maintain their impressive run of form, but they face a challenging opponent in Betis, who have won six of their opening eight league matches and made a strong start to the campaign.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Pellegrini acknowledged Barcelona’s attacking threat and stressed that his players must remain concentrated throughout the game to avoid costly mistakes.
“Playing against Barcelona is difficult; they have a very high finishing ability. We have to be very focused throughout the match and convert the chances we get,” the Chilean manager said, as quoted by AS.
Pellegrini also highlighted the danger posed by Yamal, whose creativity and technical ability have made him a difficult opponent for defenders. The Betis coach recognises that containing the young winger will require a disciplined collective effort.
Asked how his side planned to stop dangerous attackers such as Yamal and Anthony Gordon, Pellegrini gave a direct response.
“Shut down the passes… It’s not always possible, but we’ll try,” he said.
His comments suggest that Betis will attempt to cut off the supply lines feeding Barcelona’s attacking players, preventing them from receiving the ball in dangerous areas. By restricting the service reaching Yamal, Pellegrini hopes to limit the winger’s influence on the contest.
Despite the challenge of facing the Catalan giants, the Betis manager insisted that his team would stick to its playing philosophy and approach the match with the ambition of securing all three points.
