Former Real Madrid midfielder Reinier Jesus has left open the possibility of returning to the Santiago Bernabeu in the future while praising Vinicius Junior as one of the best footballers in the world. According to a report by Madrid Xtra on Saturday, October 17, 2026, the Brazilian remains open to the idea of rejoining the Spanish giants but insists his immediate focus is on his current club, Atletico Mineiro.
Reinier joined Real Madrid from Flamengo in January 2020 with hopes of establishing himself among the club’s emerging talents. However, the attacking midfielder struggled to secure a place in the first-team setup and spent much of his time away from the Spanish capital on loan.
During his time under contract at Madrid, the 24-year-old had temporary spells with Borussia Dortmund, Girona, Frosinone and Granada. Despite those opportunities, he never made a senior competitive appearance for Los Blancos before leaving permanently to join Atletico Mineiro in the summer of 2025.
In an interview with Diario AS, relayed by Madrid Xtra, Reinier was asked whether he would consider returning to Real Madrid at some point in his career.
The Brazilian responded positively to the possibility, indicating that he would welcome the opportunity but emphasising that the timing is not right. He explained that he remains fully committed to Atletico Mineiro and wants to concentrate on performing for his current team.
His comments suggest that he has not completely closed the door on a potential reunion with the Spanish club. Nevertheless, there is no indication that Real Madrid are currently planning a move to bring him back to the Bernabeu.
Reinier also discussed his friendship with Vinicius Junior, expressing considerable admiration for the Real Madrid winger. He described his compatriot as a close friend whom he cares deeply about and praised his standing among the leading players in world football.
The pair share a strong personal bond, although they never featured together in Real Madrid’s senior team. Reinier’s difficulties breaking into the first-team squad meant that he was unable to establish a playing partnership with Vinicius during his time in Spain.
Since returning to Brazilian football, Reinier has reportedly enjoyed a productive spell with Atletico Mineiro. Operating primarily as an attacking midfielder or second striker, he has recorded 10 goals and four assists in 41 appearances this season, according to the figures provided in the report.
His improved involvement at club level offers him an opportunity to rebuild his career and demonstrate the qualities that persuaded Real Madrid to sign him from Flamengo as a teenager.
For now, Reinier’s priority remains contributing to Atletico Mineiro rather than pursuing a return to European football. However, his latest comments underline his continued affection for Real Madrid and his admiration for Vinicius, leaving the possibility of a future reunion open without suggesting that any negotiations are underway.
