According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday November 5, 2026, Lamine Yamal was among several Barcelona players who voluntarily trained at the club’s facilities despite being granted a day off ahead of Sunday’s crucial La Liga meeting with Atletico Madrid.
The players chose to continue their preparations following the team's 3-0 victory over Aston Villa.
According to reports, Hansi Flick had initially planned to give his squad time to rest and recover after their Champions League outing. The break was intended to help the players regain their fitness before travelling to face Atletico at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
However, several members of the squad decided to use the opportunity to work individually. Yamal was joined by goalkeeper Joan Garcia, Wojciech Szczesny and Dominik Livakovic at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.
Joao Cancelo and midfielder Pedri also reported to the training ground. Their decision to train during the scheduled break highlights their commitment to maintaining their fitness ahead of an important fixture.
Barcelona currently occupy the top position in La Liga, with Atletico Madrid sitting second. Sunday's encounter is therefore expected to have significant implications for the title race.
Meanwhile, several injured players continued their rehabilitation programmes at the club's training facilities. Dani Olmo, Roony Bardghji, Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia were among those working towards their respective comebacks.
Garcia's recovery has reportedly progressed positively, giving him a chance of featuring against Atletico. Kounde's situation is less encouraging, as the defender continues to experience physical discomfort. His recovery has taken longer than expected, leaving him racing against time to be available.
Christensen could also return after recently resuming group training. However, Olmo, Bardghji and Xavi Espart are expected to miss Sunday's encounter. Flick will hope to have as many players available as possible for the difficult trip to Madrid.
