According to a report by BBC Sports on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Manchester United’s disappointing run of form continued after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United at Elland Road, although Bryan Mbeumo provided Michael Carrick with a rare positive moment.
The Cameroon international scored again for the Red Devils, taking his tally to four goals in seven Premier League appearances this season. Despite Mbeumo’s contribution, United were unable to secure all three points, extending their winless run to six matches, their worst sequence since the 2018-19 campaign.
The result leaves Carrick under increasing pressure to turn the team’s performances into victories, with United struggling to find consistent goalscoring contributions across the squad. Apart from Bruno Fernandes, who scored a hat-trick against Ipswich in August, no other player in Carrick’s squad has scored more than once, highlighting the team’s reliance on a limited number of attacking contributors.
United showed some encouraging signs during the encounter with Leeds, just as they did in Tuesday’s match against Atletico Madrid, despite conceding inside the opening minute. However, their inability to turn competitive performances into wins remains a significant concern as the season progresses.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after the draw, Carrick revealed that he had largely ignored the external criticism surrounding the club during the week. The manager said he “had the headphones on”, referring to his efforts to shut out the noise following Lisandro Martinez’s recent outburst.
Nevertheless, Carrick acknowledged that United must start winning matches if they are to improve their situation. The six-game winless streak represents the club’s worst run since the 2018-19 season, when their form deteriorated after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was confirmed as permanent manager.
Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher also questioned the standards surrounding the club, arguing that avoiding defeat should not be considered sufficient progress for a team of United’s stature. “Because they haven't lost at Leeds, we're thinking United have done all right,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
