According to a report by Madrid Universal on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Real Madrid have confirmed their travelling squad for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League meeting with AEK Athens, with Arda Guler and Aurelien Tchouameni among the notable players left out of the team.
Jose Mourinho’s side are preparing for their fourth league-phase match of the competition after completing their final training session in Madrid on Tuesday. However, the Portuguese manager will have to work without four players as the Spanish club prepare for the trip to Greece.
Guler and Tchouameni are unavailable alongside Rodrygo and Raul Asencio, who are both recovering from injuries. The Brazilian forward and Asencio did not take part in the team’s training session and were ruled out of the encounter.
Meanwhile, Guler and Tchouameni followed individual training programmes indoors instead of joining their teammates on the main training pitch. Although there were initial expectations that the two midfielders could still travel with the squad, their names were missing from the official travelling list released by the club.
Their absence could affect Mourinho’s plans, particularly in midfield, where both players offer different qualities. The manager will now have to consider other available options as he prepares his team for the European fixture.
One of the interesting developments in the squad announcement is the inclusion of young midfielder Sergio Martinez. The teenager joined Real Madrid from Racing during the summer transfer window and has now received an opportunity to travel with the senior team.
Although he is not expected to play a major role against AEK Athens, being included in the travelling squad represents an important opportunity for him to gain experience and continue his development within the club.
Mourinho is also expected to make some changes to his starting lineup as he manages his players across different competitions. Denzel Dumfries and Alvaro Carreras are among the defensive options who could benefit from the adjustments, while Antonio Rudiger is also in contention for a place in the team.
In midfield, Eduardo Camavinga could receive more responsibility following the absence of Guler and Tchouameni. His involvement could become important as Real Madrid look for ways to maintain control of the game.
Despite missing several players, Real Madrid will travel to Athens hoping to secure a positive result and continue their Champions League campaign on a strong note. Mourinho will be expected to make good use of his available options as the team prepares for the challenge.
The final starting lineup will reveal how the manager intends to deal with the absences and whether some of the less-used players will get an opportunity to impress.
