Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has inspired Galatasaray to their first UEFA Champions League victory of the 2026/27 season with a goal in their 4-2 win over French side Lille on Wednesday night.
The Nigerian international scored Galatasaray’s fourth goal of the encounter, helping the Turkish champions secure a crucial away victory at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille.
Osimhen registered three shots during the match, capping his performance with a decisive contribution in front of goal.
Galatasaray entered the encounter seeking their first points in the Champions League league phase after suffering defeats to Sporting CP and Barcelona in their opening two matches.
The visitors made a bright start, taking the lead through Yunus Akgün in the second minute.
However, Lille responded through Soriba Diaoune, who scored twice to put the hosts ahead 2-1.
Aleksey Batrakov restored parity for Galatasaray shortly before half-time.
Galatasaray stepped up their performance after the restart, with Lucas Torreira putting the visitors ahead in the 52nd minute before Osimhen extended their advantage nine minutes later.
The Super Eagles striker found the net in the 61st minute after Barış Alper Yılmaz set him up on a counterattack.
Osimhen finished with a powerful strike past Lille goalkeeper Berke Özer to make it 4-2.
The 27-year-old Nigerian, who previously played for Lille during the 2019/20 season, did not celebrate his goal against his former club.
His contribution proved important as Galatasaray claimed their first victory of this season’s Champions League campaign and revived their hopes of progressing in the competition.
The result also marked a significant moment for Osimhen, who returned to Lille looking to make an impact after missing Galatasaray’s opening league-phase fixture through injury.
Galatasaray will now look to build on the victory as they continue their pursuit of a place in the Champions League knockout rounds.
