How Group B Table Looks Like After Nigeria Lost 2-1 And Korea DPR Won 6-0

According to a report by ESPN on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos have been placed under pressure in Group B of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after losing their opening match 2-1 to Poland, while Korea DPR began their title defence with a convincing 6-0 victory over Puerto Rico.

The results have created an early gap between the teams that secured victories and those that started the competition with defeats. Korea DPR currently lead the group because of their superior goal difference, while Poland occupy second position after collecting three points against Nigeria.

Nigeria, meanwhile, sit third with no points, ahead of Puerto Rico, who are bottom of the standings following their heavy defeat to the defending champions.

Korea DPR produced the most impressive performance of the opening round in Group B. The defending champions scored six goals without conceding, earning three points and a goal difference of plus six. Their commanding victory has given them an early advantage over the other teams in the group.

Poland also made a positive start by defeating Nigeria 2-1. Wiktoria Skrzypczak converted a penalty in the first half before Natalia Skrok extended Poland's advantage after the break. Nigeria's Oluebube Umejiaku scored in the 79th minute, but the Flamingos could not find an equaliser before the final whistle.

Nigeria's position means the Flamingos must improve their performance in the next round if they want to strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout stage.

Their next match will be against Puerto Rico on Tuesday, October 20. The encounter has become particularly important because both teams lost their opening fixtures and will be looking to secure their first points of the tournament.

A victory would give Nigeria three points and improve their standing before their final group match against Korea DPR on Friday, October 23.

However, the Flamingos cannot afford to underestimate Puerto Rico despite the latter's 6-0 defeat. Nigeria will need to convert their scoring opportunities, defend more carefully and maintain their concentration throughout the match.

Korea DPR will face Poland on Tuesday in another crucial Group B encounter. That fixture could determine which team takes control of the group heading into the final round of matches.

Although Nigeria suffered an early setback, their qualification hopes are not over. The tournament's format allows the top two teams in each group and the four best third-placed teams to advance to the Round of 16.

The Flamingos must now focus on collecting maximum points against Puerto Rico before facing the defending champions in their final group fixture.
