Transfer: What I told Osimhen about joining Manchester United - Rio Ferdinand

According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday November 5, 2026, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he personally advised Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen to listen if the Premier League giants approach him with an offer.

Ferdinand, who previously urged his former club to sign the Nigerian international, disclosed that he had a conversation with the Galatasaray forward about the possibility of moving to Old Trafford.

The former England defender believes Osimhen should seriously consider an opportunity to join Manchester United if the club makes an approach for his services.

According to Ferdinand, he made his position clear when he spoke with the 27-year-old striker, telling him that an offer from the Red Devils was worth listening to.

"I told him, 'Victor [Osimhen], if Manchester United calls you, you should listen to them'," Ferdinand said, as quoted by Türkiye Gazetesi.

However, Osimhen reportedly reminded the former Manchester United defender that any potential transfer would depend on Galatasaray's approval.

The Nigerian striker explained that he could not simply make a move without the Turkish club's permission.

"He said, 'Rio, that is a different question. I can't do it unless Galatasaray approves.' I said, 'Exactly, that is why I am asking'," Ferdinand added.

Ferdinand's revelation has renewed attention on the possibility of Osimhen moving to Manchester United, a club that has previously been linked with the Super Eagles captain.

The former United defender has consistently expressed his admiration for the Nigerian striker and believes he possesses the qualities required to strengthen the club's attacking options.

Osimhen has established himself as one of Africa's leading forwards, earning recognition for his goalscoring ability, physical strength, movement and determination.

His performances have made him an attractive option for several European clubs, with Manchester United among the teams previously associated with his name.

The striker's response to Ferdinand also highlights the importance of Galatasaray's position in any potential transfer discussion.

Although the Nigerian forward did not dismiss the possibility of joining Manchester United, he made it clear that the Turkish champions would have an important say in determining his future.

For now, Ferdinand's comments reveal his desire to see Osimhen at Old Trafford, but they do not confirm that Manchester United have made a formal approach or opened negotiations with Galatasaray.

Nevertheless, the former defender's latest revelation is likely to generate further discussion about the Nigerian striker's future and whether he could eventually get the opportunity to play in the Premier League.
