Hull City midfielder Tim Iroegbunam has taken another important step towards representing Nigeria after submitting the required documents to FIFA to complete his international nationality switch from England.
According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria.com on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the 23-year-old has officially begun the final stage of the process after deciding to commit his international future to the Super Eagles.
Iroegbunam, who joined Hull City from Everton during the summer transfer window, was born in England to Nigerian parents and previously featured for England at youth international level.
The midfielder recently agreed to represent Nigeria following discussions with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle. He subsequently started the process of changing his international allegiance and has now forwarded the necessary paperwork to FIFA for approval.
The report also disclosed that Iroegbunam has already secured a Nigerian passport and is receiving assistance from a family member who is familiar with the procedures involved in switching international allegiance.
Chelle has been making efforts to attract footballers of Nigerian descent, particularly those playing for clubs across Europe, as he looks to improve the quality and depth of the national team.
The Super Eagles manager has previously explained that recruiting eligible dual-nationality players has become a common approach among several African countries seeking to strengthen their squads.
Despite the progress made in his nationality switch, Iroegbunam will not be available for Nigeria's forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures.
The Hull City midfielder must first wait for FIFA to complete its clearance process before becoming eligible to feature for the Super Eagles in official international matches.
His eventual arrival would give Chelle another midfield option as Nigeria continues to build a stronger squad for its upcoming international commitments.
