Real Madrid Consider Jose Mourinho’s Future as Florentino Perez Identifies Potential Replacement

According to a report by Madrid Universal on Monday October 19, 2026, Jose Mourinho's future is allegedly being discussed by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. According to Spanish media, Jose Mourinho could be put under intense pressure following a loss to Barcelona.

After two trophy-less seasons in LaLiga and the Champions League, Mourinho made his triumphant return to the Bernabeu in the summer of 2026, charged with reestablishing Madrid's dominance both domestically and in Europe.

Some have voiced their displeasure with Real Madrid's play thus far in the 2026–27 season. Despite beating Inter Milan and Roma in the first two Champions League matches, they are now six points behind Barcelona in LaLiga.

Juan Jesus, a Spanish journalist, claims that if Real Madrid loses badly to Barcelona in Sunday's El Clasico at Camp Nou, they may fire Jose Mourinho.

A humiliating loss could be the last straw for Perez, according to Jesus, who claimed that Perez views the match as crucial. Perez previously managed Manchester United and Chelsea.

Joe Mourinho's job is in jeopardy as we enter a pivotal week, highlighted most prominently by Sunday's Clásico, he wrote on X.

According to the journalist, the club's performance this week could be the deciding factor in Mourinho's immediate future.

Despite Madrid's recent 4-1 win over Sevilla, they still face a formidable challenge in their forthcoming encounter with Barcelona. In the event of another loss, they risk falling nine points behind their formidable adversary.

Jorge C. Picon, a journalist, has said that senior figures at Madrid are becoming increasingly skeptical of Mourinho's management. There have been rumblings that some players' choices and the team's strategy are too similar to last year.

According to Picon, Mourinho's players are still behind him, but after supporting his return and adding players to the roster, some executives were hoping for a more dramatic change.

Didier Deschamps is also being considered as a potential successor. After stepping down as coach of the French national team after the 2026 World Cup, the position became available to him.

Perez reportedly considered Deschamps as a possible successor to Mourinho in the event that the latter failed to improve results, according to journalist Sergio Valentin.

The reports have not been confirmed, and Madrid has not made an official announcement about the future of their manager.
