According to a report by Madrid Universal on Tuesday October 20, 2026, RB Leipzig manager Martin Demichelis has warned his team about Real Madrid’s dangerous attacking transitions ahead of their upcoming Champions League meeting, while also praising Yan Diomande’s potential.
Speaking to AS, the Argentine coach insisted that Leipzig must respond strongly after their heavy 6-1 defeat to Bayern Munich, stressing the importance of returning to their possession-based style against a Madrid side capable of punishing mistakes. “Against Madrid, we have to hold onto the ball because every time they make a counter-attack, they create danger," he said.
Demichelis believes his players must show greater confidence on the ball and remain disciplined defensively if they are to compete against the Spanish giants.
The Leipzig manager identified Kylian Mbappe as one of Madrid’s biggest threats, highlighting the forward’s pace, dribbling and clinical finishing.
He explained that Madrid can create dangerous opportunities with just a few passes, making it essential for Leipzig to remain alert whenever possession changes hands.
Demichelis also acknowledged the tactical qualities associated with Jose Mourinho’s teams, particularly their defensive organisation and ability to strike quickly on the counter-attack.
The Argentine coach believes Leipzig must find the right balance between controlling possession and protecting themselves against Madrid’s rapid forward movements.
Demichelis was equally impressed by Madrid’s midfield depth, naming Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Jude Bellingham among the club’s outstanding options. “The only thing I can say – because we’ve been analysing Real Madrid recently – is that, regardless of who plays, whether it’s Fede Valverde, Tchouameni, Camavinga or Bellingham starting… they’re all very good; they’re all at international level, " he added.
He also acknowledged the contributions of former midfielders Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro, noting that Madrid continue to possess considerable quality despite moving beyond that successful generation.
Meanwhile, Demichelis offered glowing praise for Yan Diomande, predicting a bright future for the young attacker.
The coach highlighted the player’s ability to operate on either wing, particularly praising his close control with both feet and his capacity to make a difference in attacking situations.
However, Demichelis admitted that his direct experience of working with Diomande had been limited, explaining that the player spent much of the relevant period away with the national team before returning to individual training.
Despite that limited time together, the Leipzig manager expressed confidence in Diomande’s development and potential to reach a higher level. “Yan is one of those players who currently makes all the difference, whether on the left or the right, thanks to his superb ball control with both feet,” he concluded.
With the Champions League encounter approaching, Demichelis will hope his players can put their defeat to Bayern behind them and produce a more convincing performance against Madrid.
