According to a report by FootballTransfers on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Chelsea appear to have made the right decision by keeping Josh Acheampong at the club despite interest from several top European teams during the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old defender has attracted interest from prominent clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
Before the start of the season, Chelsea’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, reportedly held talks with Acheampong’s representatives and assured them that the young defender would play an important role in his plans.
After starting just eight Premier League matches last season, Acheampong has already featured in six of Chelsea’s nine games across all competitions this campaign.
The defender has completed the full 90 minutes in both of Chelsea’s league matches since the international break, helping the team secure a 5-1 victory over Bournemouth before playing a key role in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Everton.
Chelsea’s triumph over Everton also marked their first clean sheet of the season. Following the match, Alonso praised his players for their discipline and composure, explaining that they controlled the game, defended effectively and created opportunities after the interval.
Acheampong also delivered an impressive individual performance, helping Chelsea keep Jack Grealish and former Blues teammate Tyrique George under control.
His strength in one-on-one defensive situations, composure in possession and ability to advance the ball have further strengthened his chances of becoming a regular starter under Alonso.
With significant room for improvement, Acheampong could develop into an increasingly influential figure at Stamford Bridge. Reports indicate that Chelsea have already started discussions about offering the promising defender a new long-term contract.
