According to BBC Sport on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Manchester United Women secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Charlton Athletic Women, with Ella Toone, Andrea Medina and Julia Zigiotti Olme finding the net in an entertaining encounter.
United established an early advantage through an energetic start, with Toone breaking the deadlock in the sixth minute. The midfielder created space on the left side of the penalty area before sending a right-footed shot into the top-right corner, giving the visitors an immediate boost.
The advantage was extended just four minutes later when Medina finished off a move initiated by Hanna Lundkvist. After receiving Lundkvist’s cross, the defender connected with a right-footed effort from the centre of the penalty area to put Manchester United 2-0 ahead.
Charlton responded quickly, however, as Davidson reduced the deficit in the 13th minute. Jodie Hutton provided the assist, allowing the forward to fire a left-footed shot into the bottom-left corner and bring the hosts back into contention.
United continued to create opportunities as the first half progressed. Zigiotti Olme struck the crossbar in the 15th minute following a corner, while Elisabeth Terland also had an attempt blocked as the visitors maintained their attacking pressure.
The third goal eventually arrived in the 31st minute, with Zigiotti Olme finding the net after receiving a pass from Jess Park. The midfielder calmly placed a right-footed finish into the bottom-left corner, restoring United’s two-goal advantage and giving her side greater control of the contest.
Charlton goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse produced several important interventions after the interval to prevent the deficit from increasing. She denied Terland in the 64th minute, while Dominique Janssen also saw a long-range effort kept out during the second half.
Toone came close to adding another goal in the 65th minute, but her attempt from the left side of the penalty area narrowly missed the target. United subsequently made changes in the 69th minute, introducing Lea Schüller and Simi Awujo as they sought to maintain their attacking threat while protecting their lead.
Schüller nearly added a fourth goal in the 77th minute when she struck the right post with a left-footed attempt following another assist from Park. Despite further opportunities for both sides in the closing stages, neither team managed to alter the scoreline.
Manchester United Women ultimately held on for a 3-1 victory, with their clinical finishing in the opening half proving decisive. The result highlighted their attacking quality, while Charlton were left to reflect on the goals conceded during a difficult opening 31 minutes.
