According to a report by FootballTransfers on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Chelsea are among the clubs keeping an eye on Borussia Dortmund winger Mathis Albert, with the Premier League side reportedly prepared to spend up to €20 million to secure the highly rated teenager's signature.
The 17-year-old has been compared to former Dortmund star Christian Pulisic, partly because they are both American and established themselves as exciting young attacking talents.
Albert made his senior debut in April and was expected to receive more first-team opportunities this season. However, his only senior appearance so far has come in the DFB-Pokal, with the youngster yet to feature in either the Bundesliga or the Champions League.
According to Sky Germany, Albert is becoming frustrated with his lack of playing time. Although he does not expect to start every game, he reportedly believed he would have a more defined role in Dortmund's first team after being promoted to the senior squad.
His limited opportunities could encourage other clubs to revive their interest in him. Chelsea and Manchester City were previously linked with a potential €20 million bid, while Paris Saint-Germain also expressed interest before the winger joined Dortmund in 2024. However, no official offer was submitted, as Dortmund were determined to retain the promising youngster.
Dortmund's tactical approach could be contributing to Albert's situation. The German club initially planned to rely on traditional wingers but changed its approach during the summer transfer window.
As a result, Albert's preferred position has become difficult to accommodate. He may need to adapt to playing as a No. 10 or improve his defensive abilities to fit into a wing-back role.
A move to the Premier League would not be possible until next summer, when Albert turns 18. Chelsea's interest would align with the club's wider strategy of recruiting promising young American players, although Manchester City could also compete for his signature.
