According to a post on its official Facebook page on Sunday October 25, 2026, Givemesport shares moment between Jose Mourinho and Lunin after Andriy Lunin produced a standout performance as Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 in El Clásico on Sunday, October 25, 2026, after a late call-up to the starting lineup.

The Ukrainian goalkeeper had not featured for Madrid this season before the match, but stepped in after first-choice keeper Thibaut Courtois was ruled out with flu, according to reports.

Lunin made a crucial second-half save to deny Barcelona’s Gerard Martín, helping Madrid hold on for the victory.

After the final whistle, José Mourinho crossed the pitch to embrace Lunin, recognising the goalkeeper’s contribution to the result. The moment was shared by Givemesport alongside photos of the pair.

Lunin’s performance came in a high-pressure fixture at Barcelona’s home ground. The Guardian reported that Kylian Mbappé scored twice for Madrid, while Barcelona’s goal came from Raphinha. The match report described the result as a 2-1 Madrid victory.

The goalkeeper’s intervention against Martín proved particularly important as Barcelona sought an equaliser.

Real Madrid’s official website also published comments from Lunin after the match, in which he said discipline, attitude and determination had been key to the team’s performance.

The social media post described Lunin’s display as an “absolute masterclass” and said he “ended El Clasico as Real Madrid’s captain.”

The available match reports confirm his emergency start and Mourinho’s post-match embrace, but do not independently verify the claim that Lunin finished the game wearing the captain’s armband.

Mourinho’s gesture drew attention after the match, with footage and images circulating online.

The embrace offered a public show of appreciation for a goalkeeper who had been called upon at short notice and delivered a decisive performance in one of the season’s most closely watched fixtures.
