Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo believes that the team is heading in the right direction under Andoni Iraola after the Reds secured a fourth win on the spin in all competitions.
Gakpo, who was joined in attack by Florian Wirtz, Bradley Barcola and Alexander Isak, helped Liverpool beat Brighton this weekend, moving it up to fourth in the Premier League standings. And he was pleased with how the team performed as a unit.
"I think the most positive thing is that we feel that we are growing and obviously where it will end we don’t know, but we’re going to see in the end," Gakpo said.
"But we are going and sometimes you don’t have this feeling. Sometimes you have the feeling that we’re just playing well because of today’s game. But we have a feeling that we are growing every game and things are looking better and better.
"Obviously we’re going to play some games which are not going to be that good, but I think if we keep the feeling and keep this mentality to go all in then it looks good."
Later this week, Liverpool will take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup and then Arsenal in the Premier League. Before the next international break, it then faces Fenerbahce and Crystal Palace.
"I think it is a very big day, obviously [against] a very good side," Gakpo, speaking to club media, continued.
"I think the last few games for them they were flying, scoring a lot of goals, and they don’t really concede much.
"For us, obviously important to get the first home win in the league, and I’m very happy with it.
"It was a real team win. I think we showed a lot of bravery in defense, sometimes just taking a risk being one-v-one in the back, but I think we as the players, and obviously the staff also, trust us to be in those positions and in front as well.
Get Liverpool's new 2026/27 home kit
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
"If we feel like we have to go and try to create something, obviously sometimes it doesn’t work out, but we can just go and everybody [will] accept and try to make the best out of it."
Gakpo has two goals and five assists in all competitions so far this season. He was brought back into the Liverpool starting XI against Brighton despite the good form of Rio Ngumoha, whose legs were rested.
