Real Madrid’s first-half three-goal burst ends Racing Santander’s unbeaten home run

Real Madrid ended Racing Santander’s unbeaten LaLiga home start with a 3-0 victory, stopping the hosts from completing a six-match unbeaten run in front of their own supporters in the top flight for the first time since 2011.

Racing had proved difficult to beat at home this season, but Real Madrid presented their toughest challenge yet and took control inside the opening 10 minutes. Matteo Prati brought down Kylian Mbappe inside the penalty area, giving the visitors a chance to take the lead from the spot.

Mbappe recovered from the foul to convert the penalty from 12 yards. It continued a strong pattern for the France forward, with each of his previous nine scoring appearances for Real Madrid this season also ending in victory.

Despite falling behind so early, Racing maintained their attacking approach and came close to an immediate response. Iker Luque’s effort drew an excellent reaction save from Thibaut Courtois, who kept his side ahead.

That save became even more significant midway through the half, when Real Madrid extended their advantage. A rapid sequence of one-touch passes ended with Arda Guler sending Jude Bellingham through on goal. The England midfielder rounded Julien Agirrezabala before finishing into an unguarded net.

Racing’s task was already difficult at 2-0 down, but Real Madrid made it effectively impossible before the interval. A corner was only partially cleared, and Yan Diomande was waiting on the edge of the area to meet the loose ball with a powerful volley into the top corner.

Racing manager Jose Alberto Lopez appeared to have demanded a response at half-time, and his team almost delivered one immediately after the restart. Yassir Zabiri fired narrowly over from inside the box.

Real Madrid remained intent on adding to their lead, with Mbappe coming closest to a fourth. The forward collected the ball on the turn and drove through the centre of the Racing defence before curling an effort against the post.

The home side were also denied the opportunity to reduce the deficit from the penalty spot. Aurelien Tchouameni was penalised for handball inside the area, but a VAR review showed the ball had bounced up off his foot first, so the penalty was ruled out.

The decision summed up a frustrating afternoon for Racing, who could not follow up their previous victory against Espanyol and remain within touching distance of the teams in the bottom three.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, stayed level with Barcelona at the top of LaLiga after recording a sixth consecutive win in all competitions.

Jude Bellingham was named Flashscore’s Man of the Match.
