United dropped points against Leeds as Calvert-Lewin cancelled Mbeumo’s first-half opener at Elland Road on Sunday, frustrating Carrick once again.

The draw extended United’s winless run and raised fresh questions about Carrick’s tactical choices, with winger Amad Diallo among those struggling.

Once one of United’s brightest performers under Ruben Amorim, Amad recorded 11 goals and eight assists during the 2024/25 campaign.

However, he scored only twice last season and has yet to contribute a goal or assist across three appearances this term.

Against Leeds, Amad played 90 minutes, managed two shots without hitting the target, created no chances, and completed no successful dribbles.

Carrick Could Turn To “The Next Rooney”

Football Fan Cast reports that Amad also strayed offside twice after the break, wasting promising transitions, while his record under Carrick stands at one assist in 20 appearances.

Those struggles could create an opening for younger options, including 19-year-old Shea Lacey and highly-rated 18-year-old academy prospect Amir Ibragimov.

Ibragimov’s brother previously dubbed him the “next Wayne Rooney,” and the versatile youngster has featured as a winger, attacking midfielder, and central midfielder.

He scored six goals in eight under-18 appearances during 2024/25, while this season he has recorded two goals and two assists in five youth matches.

The teenager has also impressed with his passing, completing 90 percent this season, and ranks strongly for assists per 90 minutes in Premier League 2.

Although Ibragimov has not made his senior debut, he has trained with United’s first team, making a future matchday opportunity increasingly plausible.
