The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is being lined up for an IndyCar race in July 2027, but reports that a contract has already been completed remain disputed.
Spanish broadcaster Cadena SER, following an initial report by El Periodico, said the circuit had signed a multi-year agreement. Such a race would bring the American championship to Alex Palou's home region during a season when Barcelona will not host Formula 1.
A later report by RACER said no deal had been executed and details were still being finalized. It reported that Penske Entertainment had sent a representative to Spain during the circuit's World Endurance Championship weekend.
That leaves a distinction between a project moving toward an agreement and an announced addition to the calendar. Neither the circuit nor IndyCar has formally confirmed the race in the material reviewed.
Barcelona's Formula 1 absence next year is already settled. Its extension provides for races in 2028, 2030 and 2032, rotating with Spa-Francorchamps, which is scheduled to host the Belgian Grand Prix in 2027, 2029 and 2031.
An IndyCar event would therefore give the Catalan venue another major single-seater meeting in an F1-free year, rather than replace a permanently lost Grand Prix.
Palou's five championships make a Spanish event commercially attractive, but sporting appeal does not settle the contract. The next decisive step is an announcement by the organizers with an agreed date and place on the schedule.
