Incoming Duke freshman Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje was recently listed among the best players who are not currently in the NBA.
The NBA revealed the results of their annual GM surveys earlier this week, and many Duke alumni were mentioned during the voting process. While Duke fans may have expected the survey to include names like Cameron Boozer, Kon Knueppel, Cooper Flagg and Jayson Tatum, one response in particular caught everyone off guard: Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje.
That's right. At 17 years old, with two years left in college, Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje received a vote by a current NBA general manager.
The question was, "Who is the best international player NOT in the NBA?" Former Sacramento Kings forward Sasha Vezenkov was the most popular answer, earning 77% of the vote. A former 14-year veteran, Jonas Valanciunas was the second-most popular answer, at 7%. Then Boumtje-Boumtje was listed among a handful of other players.
While Boumtje-Boumtje, who represents the United States, is not considered an international prospect, his inclusion only confirms his undeniable skills and potential.
