Premier League: Asante Kotoko seek redemption against in-form Medeama in Baba Yara showdown

Asante Kotoko will be determined to return to winning ways when they welcome Ghana Premier League leaders Medeama SC to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 1, 2026, in what promises to be an intriguing Matchday nine encounter.

The Porcupine Warriors head into the high-profile fixture under pressure to improve their league position after settling for a 1-1 draw against FC Ashanti Gold '04 at the Len Clay Stadium last Sunday.

Kotoko currently occupy eighth position on the league table with 12 points, having recorded two wins, one draw and two defeats in their last five league matches. During that period, they have scored nine goals and conceded an equal number, highlighting their need for greater consistency at both ends of the pitch.

Despite their recent struggles, the Kumasi-based giants will draw confidence from their performances at home, where all three of their victories this season have been recorded.

Their historical record against Medeama at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium also offers some encouragement. Since the 2020/21 season, Kotoko have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six league meetings with the Mauve and Yellow at the venue.

With the backing of their passionate supporters, the Porcupine Warriors will be hoping to exploit their home advantage and deliver a statement performance against the league leaders.

Medeama, however, travel to Kumasi in impressive form and will be eager to maintain their position at the summit of the standings.

The Tarkwa-based outfit bounced back strongly from their first defeat of the campaign against FC Samartex 1996, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aduana FC at home last weekend.

That result strengthened their grip on top spot, taking their tally to 17 points from eight matches.

The Mauve and Yellow have won four of their last five league outings, scoring a league-high 14 goals and conceding seven during that impressive run. Their attacking efficiency and growing confidence have made them one of the standout teams in the competition so far.

However, Medeama will be aware that their away performances have been less convincing. They have managed just one victory, alongside two draws and one defeat, in their four away league fixtures this season.

Their trip to Kumasi therefore presents another significant test of their title credentials, particularly against a Kotoko side eager to rediscover its winning rhythm.

Medeama will need to demonstrate defensive discipline, tactical organisation and attacking composure if they are to overcome the Porcupine Warriors on their home turf.

With Kotoko desperate to climb the league standings and Medeama determined to consolidate their position at the top, Sunday's encounter promises to be a fiercely contested battle.
