The Shanghai Bank Cup North Bund Entrepreneur Tennis Elite Tournament expanded to 36 participating teams on October 24 at the North Bund Civic Sports Center Tennis Court, growing from 24 teams in its inaugural edition.
Organized by the district sports bureau, district sports federation, and North Bund Street, with the district tennis association handling operations, the October 24 event served as part of the 2026 Shanghai Urban Amateur League and the Hong Sports Ground series. The tournament aims to build a specialized communication platform connecting government and enterprise bodies while testing new paths for merging mass fitness with business services.
Tennis has gained significant traction among corporate executives in the North Bund area, where court demand remains high. This local popularity drove the expansion and operational upgrade of the tournament, pushing both its scale and local reach to higher levels.
On the court, participants contested matches featuring powerful serves, baseline rallies, and net volleys under the sporting spirit of friendship first, competition second. Between matches, the waiting areas functioned as networking spaces where executives formed professional connections, blending athletic competition with industry dialogue.
Wei Yuefeng of Shanghai Guangyi Wangda Private Fund Management Co., Ltd., paired up with Li Yijie of Shanghai Zhihe Law Firm to compete in the tournament.
Ding Zhen, corporate department head at the Bank of Shanghai’s Hongkou branch and an active tennis player, highlighted the role sports play in shrinking distances between commercial entities. As the primary corporate partner for the tournament, the bank works closely with North Bund market entities and seeks to use the event to strengthen local corporate ties while delivering financial services.
The reception from local businesses stems from North Bund Street’s ongoing efforts to improve regional business environments. The subdistrict office utilizes athletic events as a soft extension of corporate support, having previously hosted football and badminton tournaments designed to help enterprises build spontaneous resource networks.
The Hong Sports Ground venue provided professional referee crews, high-standard courts, and logistical support to keep the tournament running smoothly.
The October 24 tournament builds on previous athletic initiatives organized by North Bund Street, including football and badminton competitions.
