Four Betway Premiership matches were played over the weekend, while four other teams were on continental duty in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
A total of seven goals were scored across the four league fixtures, with Bloemfontein outfit Siwelele recording their first win of the season.
SIWELELE END SEVEN-GAME WINLESS RUN
Siwelele secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Polokwane City on Sunday, with Michel N’Guessan scoring the only goal of the match in the 90th minute. It was his second goal of the season.
The victory ended Siwelele’s seven-game winless run and saw them keep their first clean sheet of the season. Including last season, the Bloemfontein side had conceded in eight consecutive matches.
Polokwane City, meanwhile, have now lost their last two matches by a 1-0 scoreline, having also suffered defeat against AmaZulu in their previous outing.
Rise and Shine are winless in seven matches, recording four draws and three defeats.
This is their longest winless run since another seven-game spell during the 2024/25 season.
SEKHUKHUNE UNITED BEAT MARUMO GALLANTS
Sekhukhune United claimed a 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants on Saturday night, extending their unbeaten run to four matches.
Oageng Phiri opened the scoring in the 30th minute after being set up by Ngoanamello Rammala Melusi Buthelezi’s 77th-minute own goal brought Gallants level at 1-1 before Bethuel Muzeu scored the winner for Sekhukhune in second-half stoppage time, converting D’Angelo Kazeem’s assist.
Sekhukhune are now unbeaten in four matches, recording two wins and two draws since their 2-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates in August. They have also won consecutive matches for the first time this season and remain unbeaten at home, with three wins and one draw.
The result came in the ninth league meeting between the two sides, with Sekhukhune claiming their fourth victory. The previous encounters had produced three draws and two Gallants wins.
For Marumo Gallants, the situation continues to deteriorate. They are now winless in 18 league matches, having recorded nine draws and nine defeats. Their last league victory came in March, when they beat Chippa United 3-1 away from home.
Gallants have previously endured lengthy winless spells in the league, including an eight-game run in the 2021/22 season and another eight-game spell in 2022/23.
KRUGER UNITED CLAIM ANOTHER AWAY VICTORY
Chippa United suffered a 1-0 home defeat to newcomers Kruger United, who secured their second victory of the season.
Remarkably, both of Kruger United’s wins this campaign have come away from home, with both matches ending 1-0. They have now won consecutive away matches, becoming the first newly promoted side to achieve the feat since Richards Bay in the 2022/23 season.
All seven of Kruger United’s league points this season have been collected on the road.
Chippa United, meanwhile, are still searching for their first home victory, having recorded three draws and two defeats in five matches at home. It is the first time since the 2021/22 season that the Eastern Cape side have failed to win any of their opening five home games.
MILFORD FC EDGE GOLDEN ARROWS IN KZN DERBY
Milford FC claimed a 1-0 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows in a KwaZulu-Natal derby.
Siphosethu Ndlabi scored the decisive goal in the 72nd minute, registering his second goal of the season. He has now scored in two of his last three league appearances.
The victory was Milford’s fourth of the season, with three of those wins coming by a single-goal margin. Milford also recorded their fourth clean sheet of the campaign, with three of those coming away from home. The result marked their first away win of the season in their fifth away match.
The narrow victory adds another positive result to Milford’s campaign as they continue to build momentum in the Betway Premiership.
