Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum says Kim Lars Björkegren is prepared to take charge of the interim Black Stars technical team while maintaining his role as head coach of the Black Queens.
The Swedish tactician has been appointed to lead Ghana’s senior men’s team for their two matches against Somalia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in November.
Ghana sit bottom of Group C without a point after losing to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia. Those defeats came before Carlos Queiroz left his position as head coach.
Speaking on the appointment, Asante Twum said Björkegren was excited about the opportunity to lead the Black Stars and viewed it as a chance to challenge himself in a new role.
“He loves the challenge. At least, I spent the day with him, and I know he is ready to take it on. He also feels that it is time to test himself,” he told TV3.
Björkegren will be supported by Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram as assistant coaches, while former Ghana goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda has been named goalkeepers’ coach.
