German, Rwandan riders to challenge Ugandans in motocross season finale

Celebrated motocross riders Fatuh Kiggundu, the Trocy brothers from Germany, Robin Apus, Albert Cruz and Rwanda’s Amani Amani are among the prominent competitors expected to participate in the seventh round of the National Motocross Championship on Sunday.

The event is expected to attract local and international riders, motorsport enthusiasts and fans as Uganda’s motocross season approaches its conclusion.

George Semakula Katende, the chief of course and an official of Southern Motor Club, told Bbeg Media in an interview in Kampala that preparations were under way for the competition, which will feature several riding categories and additional activities for spectators.

“We shall have a technical inspection on Sunday morning, which will be followed by mountain biking. Official practice will come later, followed by a jury meeting to assess the competition. I therefore call upon all our fans to come in big numbers,” Semakula said.

He explained that each motocross category would have two heats, giving riders an opportunity to compete across the scheduled races.

Semakula said Fabian Trocy would compete in the MX1 category, while Lil Trocy would ride in the 65cc class. Rwanda’s Amani Amani is expected to compete in the 85cc category.

According to Semakula, each motocross lap will cover 1.8 kilometres, with race durations varying according to the category.

He said the MX1 and MX2 categories would compete for 18 minutes plus one lap. The 125cc and 85cc categories would race for 15 minutes plus one lap, while the 50cc category would run for 10 minutes plus one lap. The MX50 Junior category would have a seven-minute race.

The competition will also feature women’s boda boda riders and mountain bikers, offering spectators more activities beyond the main motocross races.

Semakula added that the programme would include training for motor rally drivers, bringing together participants from different disciplines of motorsport.

Fatuh Kiggundu, one of the contenders in the MX1 category, welcomed the participation of international riders, saying their presence would make the competition more exciting.

However, he dismissed suggestions that the visiting riders would easily defeat their Ugandan counterparts.

“We shall enjoy this race due to the presence of these guest riders. However, we shall not allow them to defeat us,” Kiggundu said.

The event will also feature the participation of prominent Ugandan rally drivers, including Ponsiano Lwakataka, Nasib Ssesanga, Yusuf Babu and Faisal Kayiira, among others.

Semakula said their involvement was intended to give back to the fans who have supported them throughout their motorsport careers.

He described the participation of the rally drivers as an expression of corporate social responsibility, saying it would help strengthen the relationship between competitors and their supporters.
