A CANADIAN football game was brought to a hilarious halt after two bunnies invaded the field – with fans joking it was the “best part” of the night.

The furry pitch invaders made their surprise appearance during the Calgary Stampeders’ CFL clash with the BC Lions at McMahon Stadium on Saturday.

Play was stopped after the first rabbit raced across the turf and into the end zone, sparking huge cheers from the crowd as players and officials were forced to wait.

One commentator laughed: “It looks like we’ve got some additional friends on the field. Not sure which team he’s on.”

And the reception got even louder when a second bunny suddenly appeared.

The two rabbits were hopping around the field as bemused officials tried to work out how to restart the game.

The animals appeared in no hurry to leave, while cameras cut to delighted supporters in the stands enjoying the unusual interruption.

One fan joked the rabbits were the “best part” of the night, while others online branded the scenes “adorable”.

Officials eventually took matters into their own hands and chased the pair towards the sidelines – only to be booed by sections of the crowd for bringing the entertainment to an end.

The rabbits were eventually shepherded away from the playing surface, allowing the action to resume as the crowd gave them a send-off.

Calgary went on to win the game 32-13, with quarterback Vernon Adams Jr throwing for 324 yards and a touchdown while Quincy Vaughn rushed for two scores.

The victory kept the Stampeders’ playoff hopes alive heading into the final week of the CFL regular season – although for plenty of fans, it was the two uninvited guests who stole the show.
