Miyagi: Same energy, same hunger, we win it
Juma Miyagi

Juma Miyagi is confident Uganda’s Cricket Cranes can beat hosts Nigeria and lift the ICC T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier C title when the two sides meet in Abuja on Sunday.

Miyagi has every reason to be optimistic after producing a career-best performance to inspire Uganda to a 10-wicket victory over Mozambique on Saturday, October 24.

The bowler claimed five wickets for just seven runs in four overs to earn the Player of the Match award, helping dismiss Mozambique for a paltry 19 runs in 7.2 overs after they elected to bat first.

“Alhamdulillah!” Miyaji said, thanking God for a memorable outing.

“First of all, I’ll say Alhamdulillah for today. It’s been a good day for me picking five wickets for seven. As you can see, my shirt number is 57.”

The coincidence between his jersey number and bowling figures made the performance even more special.

“My lucky omen. So it’s been a great day for me coming in from the rest and coming to pick five wickets for my team,” he added.

Miyaji was not alone in tormenting Mozambique’s batting line-up. Enock Kasaija claimed four wickets for four runs in 2.2 overs as Uganda’s bowlers tore through their opponents.

The chase was equally swift. Robinson Obuya scored an unbeaten 16 as the Cricket Cranes raced to 23 without losing a wicket in just five balls to seal a 10-wicket victory.

The emphatic result secured Uganda’s place in the Africa Regional Final and set up Sunday’s meeting with Nigeria, which will determine the overall winner of the tournament.

With the title at stake, Miyagi says the mood in the Ugandan camp is encouraging, with the players eager to carry their winning energy into the decisive contest.

“I think if you look at that, if you look at the players, everyone is pumped up for tomorrow’s game and everyone wants that win,” he said.

The bowler believes Uganda can finish the job if the team reproduces the intensity and determination it showed against Mozambique.

“If we come back stronger like today, same energies, we are definitely taking it home,” he declared.

Uganda will now look to turn Saturday’s dominant display into another victory against Nigeria and finish the tournament with the title.
