Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has explained his decision to deploy Reeve Frosler in midfield, pointing to the player’s versatility as a key factor behind the tactical switch.
Frosler started in midfield during their 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch FC in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday evening.
The 28-year-old was deployed in midfield because Da Cruz had too many midfielders on the sidelines, including Lebohang Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Adolf Mtasingwa.
Da Cruz revealed that Frosler had already been tested in the position during pre-season and was selected against Stellenbosch FC to provide an aerial presence, with injuries limiting the coach’s options in midfield.
“We already tried Reeve in midfield during the pre-season,” Da Cruz said.
“The best quality of Reeve is that he can play in different positions.
“So it’s very interesting for him. We put Reeve in the middle because he’s a good header. We wanted him to help us with headers against Stellenbosch.
“We also have two injured players in this position, so we don’t have a lot of choices. The other choices we had were young players, but we preferred to start with Reeve in this position.”
