Manchester City are awaiting the results of medical checks on Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo after he sustained a knee problem during the Premier League match against Ipswich Town.
City manager Enzo Maresca said he hopes the issue will prove minor, stressing the importance of the 26-year-old wide attacker to his plans.
“Hopefully Semenyo and Haaland are fine, because they are very important players for us,” Maresca said. “It is the same for every team when they lose their two best players. It becomes difficult for anybody, but we will see what has happened and hopefully we can find a solution.”
Semenyo is set for further medical assessment as City turn their attention to hosting AEK Athens in the UEFA Champions League on October 20.
Maresca said Mateo Kovačić, Matheus Nunes and Haaland had all indicated that they were fit after the Ipswich game, while Nico O’Reilly continued to deal with a back complaint.
“I spoke with all of them,” Maresca added. “Mateo said he was fine, Matheus said he was fine, and Erling also said he was okay. Nico is still dealing with his back. Antoine is the only one we have to wait for, so we will see.”
