Liverpool fans have seen enough of rising star as Ryan Gravenberch reaction speaks volumes

Liverpool fans were impressed by Trey Nyoni with the reaction of Ryan Gravenberch to one move he did against Villarreal in the Champions League speaking volumes

Trey Nyoni has now featured in each of Liverpool's last six games in all competitions, with the 19-year-old England youth international making himself a regular under Andoni Iraola.

And with Dominik Szoboszlai currently out injured and Ryan Gravenberch struggling for form, there is a good chance that continues, with matches against Brighton, Chelsea and Arsenal coming up next week.

There was one second-half moment against Villarreal on Tuesday when Nyoni took the ball under pressure from two or three Villarreal attackers who sensed a chance to press, only for the 19-year-old to drop his shoulder and spin away.

That piece of skill earned applause from Gravenberch, with Nyoni producing a turn that the Dutchman often comes up with when he is performing at his best.

And Liverpool fans on social media had seen enough. "So calm under pressure," one wrote, while another added, "Things you love to see."

Across the game as a whole, Nyoni had a 94 per cent pass accuracy. He also played 15 line-breaking passes during his time on the field, where he was sitting deepest in the center.

It wasn't all perfect — off the ball, there were runners from midfield that weren't tracked at times, and Villarreal scored three goals in total, which shows everything wasn't 100 per cent in a defensive aspect — but in possession, Nyoni is already excellent.

"I think the mentality of the team was top," Nyoni, who was making his first home start in the Champions League, told club media at the final whistle.

"Obviously, we didn’t start well but now we need to improve and try not to concede goals early. But at the end of the day, everyone pulled through and got the victory.

"There was no panic at all. Everyone believes in each other and I feel like when the team morale is like this, none of us can panic and we believe in our quality.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

"You saw in the second half how we changed the game and upped the tempo a bit more, which is what we needed to do. And scored the goals."

On the competition for places at Anfield, he added: "We know it’s not easy, because this is one of the best clubs in the world. So we know we have to compete with top players.

"I feel like being with top players every day pushes us even more to work hard, because to play for Liverpool, the standards are very high, and we all know this."
