AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane has revealed how watching Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns battle in the MTN8 final inspired his ambitions to transform Usuthu into a team capable of competing for major trophies in South African football.

The encounter between two of the Premier Soccer League’s leading clubs provided Zwane with an opportunity to assess the standards required to succeed at the highest level. For the AmaZulu coach, matches of this magnitude offer valuable lessons in tactical discipline, preparation, quality and the mentality needed to win important competitions.

Pirates and Sundowns have established themselves as strong contenders for domestic honours, with both clubs boasting talented squads and considerable experience in high-pressure matches. Their meeting in the MTN8 final highlighted the level AmaZulu must aspire to reach if they want to challenge consistently for silverware.

Zwane is determined to use such occasions as learning opportunities as he continues building his team. The former Kaizer Chiefs coach understands that competing with South Africa’s established heavyweights requires more than ambition. It demands consistent performances, effective recruitment, tactical organisation and a strong team culture.

At AmaZulu, his responsibility is to develop a side capable of delivering results while establishing a clear identity on the pitch. The Durban-based club has a proud history and passionate supporters who will be eager to see the team compete for major honours.

However, closing the gap on Pirates and Sundowns will require patience and sustained improvement. Zwane must ensure that his players develop the confidence, discipline and composure needed to perform under pressure, particularly when facing stronger opposition.

His inspiration from the MTN8 final reflects his desire to raise expectations at AmaZulu and build a competitive squad. Supporters will hope that the lessons he draws from watching the country's leading clubs translate into better performances and improved results.

Ultimately, Zwane's ambition will be measured by what AmaZulu achieve on the pitch. Turning inspiration into consistent performances could prove crucial as Usuthu seek to establish themselves among South African football's leading contenders.
