Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has decided whether to fire Jose Mourinho, according to a Spanish journalist, with another source naming the “replacement” for the Portuguese manager.
For the second time in his career, Mourinho was appointed manager of Real Madrid in the summer of 2026.
Perez decided to bring the former Manchester United and Chelsea manager back to the Bernabeu after two seasons without a LaLiga or Champions League win.
Given Real Madrid’s great expectations, the first few months of the 2026/27 season have been less than outstanding.
Los Blancos are already six points behind champions and arch rivals Barcelona in La Liga.
While Madrid has won both Champions League games this season, their triumphs over Inter Milan and AS Roma were hardly convincing.
According to Spanish journalist Juan Jesus, who has over 24,000 followers on X, Madrid president Perez may fire Mourinho if his club loses to Barcelona at Camp Nou next weekend.
Although Madrid easily defeated Sevilla 4-1 at the Bernabeu in LaLiga on Sunday evening, the game versus Barcelona is viewed as crucial.
If the Spanish champions win, they will be nine points clear of Madrid, and it is difficult to see Mourinho’s team closing the distance.
Jesus commented on X at 4:26pm on October 18: “Jose Mourinho’s position is significantly jeopardized moving into this important week, highlighted above all by the Clásico on Sunday.
“Within the club, Florentino Perez doesn’t mince words: he’s made it plain that the Clasico is very, very important, and that a humiliating defeat may be the last straw.
Furthermore, several players would not view this move negatively.
“The results of this week will be crucial.”
