Tottenham Hotspur players will have to be very careful to avoid another red card against Coventry City after the Premier League announced which referee will take charge of the clash.

Rodrigo Bentancur’s red card against Man United has been deemed the right decision by former PMGOL referee Dermot Gallagher.

The Uruguayan decided to lean into Luke Shaw with his head after the United man pushed him to the floor with force, for which the left-back escaped with a yellow.

Bentancur is now suspended for three games, including the upcoming clash against Coventry City on Monday, but the Spurs players will now have to be very careful not to add more names to the suspension list.

Referee who has sent off two Tottenham players in 13 matches will take charge of Coventry clash

The Premier League’s website has now confirmed that Andy Madley will take charge of the clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday.

As per Transfermarkt, Madley has officiated only 13 Spurs games so far, out of which the Lilywhites have a 50-50 record, having lost six, won six and drawn 1.

However, what will concern Tottenham fans is that the 43-year-old referee has handed out two red cards to Spurs players already.

The first one to be sent off by Madley was former captain Cristian Romero, who got two yellow cards during Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Man City back in February 2023.

The most recent one was the current captain Micky van de Ven, who was handed a straight red card in the 37th minute of Tottenham’s 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace back in March of this year.

The Spurs players may thus have to stay on their feet as much as possible and avoid losing their heads as Bentancur did at Old Trafford.

Roberto De Zerbi will hope history repeats itself following Marbella trip

The Tottenham squad have flown out to Marbella, Spain, for warm-weather training to take advantage of the nine-day break they have between games.

De Zerbi has made it clear that bringing the squad closer together is the primary goal of the trip, and this strategy has been used to great effect by the Italian in the past.

In fact, De Zerbi’s mid-season trips turned around Marseille’s form on a couple of occasions during his first season at the Ligue 1 club.

Spurs fans will be hoping that this Marbella trip has the same galvanising effect on their players, with the North Londoners still waiting for their first win of the league season.
